Pentimenti is delighted to announce that NADA New York has selected the gallery to participate in this year’s fair, taking place at the iconic Starrett-Lehigh Building. NADA New York will feature a diverse and expanded selection of 120 galleries representing 19 countries and 50 cities, including Brussels, Shanghai, Berlin, Mexico City, Wroclaw, Belgrade, New York, and Philadelphia.

Pentimenti is proud to present a solo exhibition by Namwon Choi at Booth B214. Namwon Choi invites viewers on a journey inspired by visits to loved ones. For the past decade, she has incorporated American roadways into her artwork, blending everyday observations with personal memories. These experiences are expressed through both paintings and free-standing paintings. Choi’s photorealistic highway landscapes offer a compelling exploration of the dual roles she inhabits, as both artist and mother, and the tensions between tradition and innovation, abstraction and representation. Her hyperrealistic and hyperpigmented paintings are based on photographs taken from the dashboard, using photoresist techniques with acrylic and gouache on wood panels. Dominated by shades of blue, her palette captures the vastness of the open road, while vivid bursts or subtle colors drawn from road signs convey movement and evoke a sense of familiarity and freedom.

Namwon Choi holds a BFA and MFA in Oriental Painting from Hongik University and an MFA in Drawing and Painting from Georgia State University. She has exhibited at institutions and museums like the Museum of Contemporary Art, Atlanta, GA; Moss Arts Center, VA; and the Korean Cultural Center in Washington, D.C., among many others. Choi has received awards and residencies, including the MOCA GA Working Artist Project, MASS MoCA Residency, and Virginia Center for the Creative Arts Fellowship. In 2023, she was named one of the "Women to Watch" by the Georgia Triennial Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
