Pentimenti is delighted to present "Heaven Above, The Lake Below", Alfred Rosenbluth's debut solo exhibition at the gallery.

Alfred Rosenbluth's new wall sculptures merge influences from diverse historical periods and ancient sculptural traditions, drawing inspirations from a pre-industrial past. Deeply influenced by cosmic perspectives shaped by Victorian materialism, Japanese dance theater, and avant-garde theatrical concepts, his works reflect an ongoing dialogue between sculptural environments and the figures that inhabit them.

Working with clay molds, Rosenbluth's 2D work employs various techniques to imprint spatial negatives into the material before casting them in plaster. At the same time, his process follows a structured system of repetitive mark-making, designed to minimize the artist’s presence through fundamental, unembellished gestures. His practice moves between states of fullness and emptiness, evoking an experience that prioritizes tactile engagement with the physical world as a means of perceiving what lies beyond its surface.

Alfred’s drawing practice runs parallel to his sculptural work, serving both as a complement and a distinct discipline. Rooted in representational figurative traditions, his pencil-on-paper drawings emphasize the preservation of formal values, space, and the human figure. Influenced by 19th- and 20th-century Symbolists and Surrealists, he draws inspiration from artists such as Odilon Redon, Alfred Kubin, and Austin Osman Spare, channeling their visionary aesthetics into his own work.

Alfred Rosenbluth received his BA in Slavic Studies from Connecticut College, his MFA in Sculpture from the New York Academy of Art, and his MA in Slavic Cultures from Columbia University. He has exhibited at Mueller + Jacob Special Projects, New York, NY, SPRING//BREAK NYC, New York, NY, the New York Academy of Art, New York, NY, the School of Visual Arts, New York, NY, Sotheby’s, New York, NY, Art Centro, Poughkeepsie, NY, and Kraine Gallery, New York, NY, among others.
