In my most recent tower series, I have continued my exploration of cellular towers in their surrounding landscape. The majority of the pieces in this series are towers found in the Philadelphia area. I was particularly interested in documenting cell towers and antennas from this area because the age and proximity of structures require these contemporary devices to function alongside the older buildings and structures. Receivers, transmitters and towers cling to sides of buildings and project from rooftops. Even aging silos and water towers are transformed into cell towers. The already intriguing contrast between the cell towers and their surroundings becomes more complex with the juxtaposition of old industry and new technology.
